Between the Mike Websters and Dermontti Dawsons lays Alan Faneca. The All-Pro guard wasn’t around for the initial Steelers dominance. He never played with the greats of Terry Bradshaw and Franco Harris.
He did come around for the second wave of history, though. Being a part of the Jerome Bettis and Ben Roethlisberger days. He may not have won four Super Bowls, but his ring for Super Bowl XL still shines.
That’s who Faneca is. He’s the second-coming of Steelers excellence. A guard who was just as important to the success of Pittsburgh as any member of this team. Linemen do not always get remembered for what they did for a team, but for Faneca, no one forgets the impact he had on the field.
Throughout his 206 games, he was a starter for 201 of them. From day one, he became a meaningful member of the Steelers organization. Now, as he waits for his place in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, he’ll sit with the greats who have come and gone through the City of Champions.
