Pittsburgh Steelers: Le’Veon Bell gives thoughts on Todd Gurley’s extension

PITTSBURGH, PA - JANUARY 14: Le'Veon Bell

Le’Veon Bell continues to throw shade at the Pittsburgh Steelers, tweeting how those who judge his money demands, shouldn’t have.

Todd Gurley just got paid. The NFL world was alive and talking, and of course, so were the players. According to reports, the running back is going to get paid $60 million in a four-year extension with the Los Angeles Rams. $45 million guaranteed.

Not as much as Pittsburgh Steelers running back, Le’Veon Bell, asked for in his contract negotiations this summer. With so much guaranteed money, though, that number could’ve worked for Bell long-term.

So, of course, he gave his comment on this situation via Twitter. Claiming, that he isn’t crazy for trying to reset the running back market.

The running back will play the 2018 season under the franchise tag. He’ll make roughly $14.5 million this year, and take his talents to the open market next offseason. With the franchise tag exceeding $20 million in 2019, the Steelers aren’t likely to tag him, and instead, try to work out a long-term deal in free agency.

At this point, one thing is certain, Bell is going to get paid. It doesn’t appear to be in Pittsburgh, but some team will hand him what he’s looking for. Especially with Gurley receiving this money.

This is not good for the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Rams set the market. Now, Pittsburgh has to match it, and possibly surpass it, before someone else does.

Bell will not report to training camp this offseason, but is expected to return for Week 1. After a slow start to 2017, people worry whether missing a second consecutive training camp will hinder his game.

Watching last season, he should be prepared enough to dominate once again. It’s another contract year for Bell, now more than ever. He’ll be looking to prove someone wrong before the end of the season.
