Pittsburgh Steelers: What to watch for against the Eagles
By Dan Gilliam
The Pittsburgh Steelers open up their preseason with a cross state rivalry matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday.
There’s plenty to talk about in this one, plus a lot of excitement heading into the first preseason game of the season, but we’ll focus on the main headlines to keep a lookout for. Don’t expect the starters to play much, or at all, for this first game. But there are still a plethora of players fighting for a roster spot and a new coordinator.
Joshua Dobbs vs Mason Rudolph
I know that Rudolph was listed at the number four quarterback on the first released depth chart, but I believe that Joshua Dobbs is really on the hot seat to make the active roster. It is a shame too, as he has tremendous character and obviously very smart. He is an actual rocket scientist and received an aerospace engineering degree.
James Washington
I can’t seem to go online to look at training camp news and notes without a mention of Washington this and Washington that. I have seen video after video of him making incredible plays and catches. I am jonesing to see him like a kid waiting for Christmas day.
Dollar Defensive package
What is this Dollar Defensive package? It has been implemented to get seven defensive backs on the field to stop the running quarterback. I also believe it will utilize playmakers like Terrell Edmunds to move him around the formation and take advantage of his athleticism.
