The Pittsburgh Steelers showed plenty of promise in their preseason opener win over the Philadelphia Eagles. But a W wasn’t the main concern before, or after, the game.
The Steelers have a number of position battles happening this summer. Unlike past years, this team is competing in positions throughout the roster, with players young and old, looking to make the final cut.
Heading into their first preseason game, many had an idea of what to expect from these competitions. But from start to finish, players showed some of the battles are wide open, and some have a clear leader, early in these exhibition matchups.
Through one game, there are clear leaders in a number of these battles. Players who showed they are the best available, and made an opening case that could not be ignored. Now, with three games left to prove themselves, they’ll be sitting the in the drivers seat.
A lot can change, but being in charge this early can go a long way in whether or not you make a final 53-man roster. The talent in Pittsburgh, right now, is some that isn’t found throughout the NFL. Players are here to prove themselves, and the Steelers will have tough decisions to make by the end of the preseason.
Right now, though, these players came out on top, and will hold as the leader until someone proves otherwise.
