Half way through the preseason, the Pittsburgh Steelers have made their first indication of what’s to come with their 53-man roster.

The Pittsburgh Steelers still have questions to answer. Despite being 1-1 and looking like the Super Bowl hopefuls they are in Week 1, this team played poorly enough in Green Bay that they’re no where near perfect.

Well, after two weeks of the preseason, they have released their second depth chart. For the most part, it was everything people expected. But there were signs that showed who’s in and who’s out in the first ranking of the 53-man roster.

For starters, Tyler Matakevich has fallen out of the team’s running for starting inside linebacker. This shouldn’t be a surprise, as both him and Jon Bostic have been overwhelmingly unreliable at the position. Even as possible backups, Pittsburgh shouldn’t want either of them on the field.

Between the two of them, neither could end up in Pittsburgh Week 1. Mike Tomlin made it known before Week 1 that if the team felt as though they needed to bring in another inside linebacker, they would. Well, they do.

Staying with the defense, Marcus Allen’s time as a potential draft steal is coming to an end. Not playing a single snap in the second preseason game was the first indication that the Steelers aren’t as impressed as we thought.

Now, he’s sitting last on the depth chart, behind Nat Behre and Jordan Dangerfield. Behre brings a special teams element and Terrell Edmunds is making the team no matter what. It looks like Allen isn’t, leaving his NFL chances to next season.

It also appears Coty Sensabaugh will be the fifth corner to make the team. Many questioned if it would be Sensabaugh or a fifth safety. As of right now, we can assume it’ll be the corner. He’s currently listed above Mike Hilton on the depth chart, not that that means anything, but it does indicate he’s the favorite of the potential cuts.

On the offensive side of the ball, Damoun Patterson is moving up, but he hasn’t made the roster yet. He still sits behind Justin Hunter in the depth chart, and we can assume they’re leaving a spot for Eli Rogers.

Patterson may have beaten out Darrius Heyward-Bey, but he still needs to move up one more spot. If the team has to choose between a veteran and an undrafted rookie, they’re going to go with the reliable choice.

Quadree Henderson is still going to get a chance as the team’s returner, but right now, he hasn’t shown enough to make the team. Antonio Brown is listed as the punt returner and JuJu Smith-Schuster the kick return man. Henderson needs to have one breakout game before he’s going to be handed anything on this team.

Next. 3 players who are in on the roster, 3 who are out. dark

Overall, not much has changed but there are indications of what’s to come. For the first time all offseason, Pittsburgh has given us something to work with in regards of predicting the roster. Which now leaves us wondering how much will change in the next two weeks.
