The Pittsburgh Steelers handed out two contract extensions that keep key players around until 2021 and 2022.
Vince Williams and Chris Boswell are more than role players in Pittsburgh. The two have solidified themselves as key members of this team. The Steelers recognize when they need to keep players around, and signed both veterans to contract extensions.
Boswell was up first, signing a five-year extension through 2022. The contract is reportedly worth just under $20 million. This makes him one of the highest paid kickers in the league.
Boswell has become just as important as any player on this roster. Many Steelers fans have named him the fourth B in the Killer B’s, and rightfully so. He’s as reliable as they come in the NFL, missing only 10 field goals in three seasons with the team.
Second, was Vince Williams. Williams has become the veteran leader of the linebacker core as Ryan Shazier continues to fight to get back to football. The team is still hunting for a replacement for Shazier, but in the meantime, they handed Williams a four-year extension.
Over four-years, Williams is set to make $20.6 million. After one year of starting with the team, the former sixth-round pick has made himself a household name in the Steel City.
Both of these were needed from the Steelers. Boswell and Williams continue to be two of the bright spots of this organization. With the team on the verge of making another Super Bowl run, they’ll want to make sure these players have a little extra motivation.
Pittsburgh will likely be making cuts next time one of their players make headlines. With Le’Veon Bell still not reporting to practice, this team will probably sit on extensions for the time being. With two weeks until the regular season, they just wanted to secure two of their most valuable assets.
