Week 3 of the preseason provides some players with the last chance to make a name for themselves on their roster. That’s no different for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Pittsburgh is entering their third preseason game of the year with a number of players fighting for a roster spot. Right now, the competition is even closer than when they started training camp. Making the games more meaningful than winning.

The Steelers have players on the verge of making or breaking themselves. These players make their own future, and with solid performances in Week 3, they could earn themselves a place in the final 53-man roster.

Justin Hunter

Justin Hunter has been no where this preseason. The training camp stud is doing exactly what he did last year, and it’s going to land him in the same spot. If he doesn’t start to show up, chances are he’s left in free agency looking for another NFL team.

He’ll get a chance to play with Ben Roethlisberger on the field. He’ll be behind James Washington, but that won’t leave him sidelined during the first-team reps. If he can prove he has chemistry with Big Ben then Pittsburgh should give him the upper hand over Damoun Patterson.

He may have moved himself out of the front-runner spot for the final wide receiver position. He’ll need an impressive performance agains the Titans to prove he’s worth keeping around. Otherwise, he’ll hit free agency before the regular season.
