Explaining the Pittsburgh Steelers 53-man roster
By Edward Hunt
The regular season is less than a week away, and the Pittsburgh Steelers’ 53-man roster is set. But what can we take away from who made it?
The Steelers have trimmed the roster to 53 and have made the moves to get players on the reserve/injured list that they want to return. They floated Nat Burhe, but it looks like he is here to stay. Now its time to look at their current roster.
Quarterback
1. Ben Roethlisberger
2. Joshua Dobbs
3. Mason Rudolph
The Steelers kept Josh Dobbs over Landry Jones and that was an interesting move. Dobbs has more upside, but Jones was proving to be reliable at this point in his career. I would assume Jones will be a phone call away in case anybody goes on injured reserve. Dobbs will have to step up in his second year and be ready if Ben goes down. Mason Rudolph will be the scout team quarterback for the near future and the hope is that he develops this year.
Running Back
1. James Conner
2. Stevan Ridley
3. Jaylen Samuels
The Steelers will be without Bell until he shows up and I don’t think anyone knows when that will be. My best guess is that he shows up Wednesday as that is what Maurkice Pouncey said. James Conner should fill in well after a great preseason. Stevan Ridley ran the ball well in the preseason and will probably be the backup to start. Jaylen Samuels made it because of his versatility.
