Where’s the Defensive Line?

You’re going to see a pattern with the next couple observations. The Steelers are actually doing pretty well when it comes to sacks per game. They’re tied for 4th in the league. Few of those are the defensive line however. And only one of these came from the vaunted duo of Heyward and Tuitt.

Heyward and Tuitt are both loaded with talent. There is no reason they shouldn’t be the best 3-4 DE duo in the league, but they just aren’t right now, far from it. Maybe it’s the lack of support behind them. Maybe it’s the defensive changes they’ve made to accommodate the loss of Shazier. These two need to be the foundation of the defense and without them at peak performance the defense is lost.
