Josh Dobbs

This may be an overreaction. I mean, how can I possibly give a player who played one play a nod like this?

Well, while all of Pittsburgh was praying to whatever higher power that Big Ben wasn’t seriously injured, Josh Dobbs took over under center. While Dobbs did enough to win the back up job from Landry Jones, asking him to take over a team with Super Bowl aspirations is a bit of a leap.

He came in when the Steelers were backed up in their own zone and faced a 2nd-and-20. Baltimore had just pulled within seven on their last possession and looked to get the ball back and even things up.

Instead, Dobbs came out firing and found a hole in the Ravens’ zone coverage and hit JuJu Smith-Schuster for a 22-yard gain for a first down. Dobbs then ran back to the sidelines while Ben took command of the offense again. The very next play, Ben hit Jesse James for a 51-yard gain and the offense was able to tack on a field goal, making it a two-score game again.

Dobbs’ throw is just one play, but his confidence to come in and make a throw like that speaks volumes of the offense with him under center and the faith the coaching staff has in him. He made a huge play that helped ensure the Steelers’ win on Sunday.
