Fichtner Fixed the Redzone and 3rd Down Problems

The Steelers have struggled for years on 3rd down and redzone offense. Even as they produced the biggest numbers in the history of the franchise under Haley’s direction, they far too often couldn’t keep it up when it came to 3rd down or inside the 20. Not that they were terrible, but it certainly lagged other stats or ranks when it comes to measuring an offense.

The first 4 games of the season, when the Steelers were at 1-2-1, they were 30.5% on third down and 77.7% in the red zone. Now, those aren’t bad red zone numbers but the third down offense is awful. Now since then, in their 5 game win streak, they’ve been 62.1% on third down and 79% in the red zone. That’s a dramatic improvement in third down, and slight in the red zone. Thursday, they were 72.7% on third down and 100% in the red zone.
