Antonio Brown requests trade from Pittsburgh Steelers, says goodbye to fans
The Pittsburgh Steelers’ biggest offseason headline has officially said goodbye. Wide receiver Antonio Brown shared a farewell video to the fans announcing his request for a trade.
It was bound to happen eventually. The Pittsburgh Steelers and Antonio Brown butted heads all January with social media post after social media post coming from the All-Pro wide receiver. Now, announcing his farewell in a social media video, Brown has requested a trade from the Steelers, according to Adam Schefter.
The news comes as no surprise to the NFL or Pittsburgh. Brown has been posting pictures of him in 49ers’ uniforms, telling Jerry Rice he wanted to go to San Francisco and has had numerously commented that he doesn’t care where he plays in 2019.
He’ll likely get his wish as the Steelers should chalk this up at the final straw for the wide receiver. On the same day news broke that Brown didn’t show up to a court date for reckless driving, he gave his final words to the city who took a chance on him nine years ago.
The 49ers remain the top target for analysts to predict where the receiver will land. With the second-overall pick, San Fran should be able to put a package together to land their newest offensive weapon.
Outside of them, it’ll be interesting to see what teams come calling for Brown. Even at 31-years-old, he’s worth a valuable deal, as he’s still considered possibly the best wideout in the NFL. Teams will need to pay a pretty penny to take him away from Pittsburgh.
The next chapter of this story is just beginning. The Steelers will be working hard to find a trade mate for their biggest star prior to the 2019 NFL Draft. With a cap hit coming in March, this could happen quicker than many expect.
