Mock Draft: One expert says Steelers move up in first-round
The Pittsburgh Steelers have options with the 20th pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, and could use their abundance of picks to move up in the first-round.
While the opening-round of the NFL Draft is filled with talent, 2019 poses an even bigger pool of stars. From start to finish, the 2019 draft class is one the NFL has seen in years. This gives plenty of teams reason to sit on their pick, but for the Steelers, it’s different.
Currently, Pittsburgh holds ten picks in the NFL Draft. Kevin Colbert made it known that the team will be open to all options with the picks, whether that’s using them or trading up with the ammunition they have.
One CBS draft analyst, Cody Benjamin, believes Pittsburgh will take the second route in trading up to assure they land their top target in the opening round. Using the 20th pick and 83rd, the Steelers trade with the Carolina Panthers to move up to number 16.
With the 16th overall pick, Pittsburgh lands their ideal inside linebacker, Devin Bush. Bush, the Michigan star who’s joining almost an entire defensive front in this draft class, brings the athleticism and power to the middle of the field. In their efforts to replace Ryan Shazier, Bush will join Vince Williams, Jon Bostic and Mark Barron in a completely revamped inside linebacker position.
If Benjamin is right, the Steelers will find their linebacker of the future. Still Curtain’s Wyatt Krehbiel believe Pittsburgh can sit back at 20 and still find Bush, but if they’re confident he’s the guy they want, moving up is a smart choice to assure they land him.
Expect plenty of talk to begin circulating once the draft begins to near. The Steelers have plenty of options and needs to fill that they’re hoping to use all ten draft picks for.
