The Pittsburgh Steelers are known for their work with different branches of the military and this past Friday, they were honored by a local branch.

Members of the Steel City Branch of the Coast Guard Enlisted Association spent their Friday presenting a plaque to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Accepted by Jim Rooney, the Steelers were honored for their work with the Coast Guard, a group they do plenty of work with throughout the year.

The Coast Guard has been part of the Steelers’ game day operations for years. During home games, they present the nation’s colors, and Pittsburgh is constantly honoring their members through programs such as ATI Salute to Heroes, Heroes at Heinz Field, Armed Forces recognitions, and Salute to Service game.

They’re also a part of game day outside of the stadium, working river traffic on Sundays. The members present at the event didn’t leave empty handed, receiving an autographed football, special coins and terrible towels from Rooney.

The Steelers have always been proud to show their support with the military. Having a local branch so close to home allows them to work the Coast Guard as much as possible, doing whatever they can to show their respect to something bigger than football.

The Steel City Branch simply wanted to show their gratitude towards the team and all they’ve done throughout the years. Although the branch is a branch outside of the Coast Guard, they do have members from within. Even being on the outside, though, the Steel City Branch strives to help the community and do their part to make Pittsburgh a better place.

It’s a reminder that Pittsburgh isn’t always just about football. And this offseason, it’s another reason to remember all the good this team does throughout the year. The Steelers are always privileged to work with such a great cause.
