Kevin Colbert says Steelers are open for business with Draft Day trade
The Pittsburgh Steelers are keeping all options on the table for the 2019 NFL Draft, but aren’t getting too in-depth before the draft actually starts.
With ten picks in the 2019 NFL Draft, the Pittsburgh Steelers are ready to do whatever possible to secure the best talent in this year’s class. But without getting too into “charts” General Manager Kevin Colbert says this team is keeping things simple.
There are plenty of options with this amount of draft picks. Whether it’s trading, adding ten new prospects or trying to sell some picks for other assets, this team can do a lot with their selections in all three days of the 2019 NFL Draft.
But Colbert isn’t following the tradition route of NFL teams. Instead, they’re taking everything as comes and using their instincts to decide which move is best as they present themselves. During his press conference on Monday, Colbert addressed his draft day plans.
"“People talk about the charts, but we don’t use a chart. We know other teams will use a chart, and we know that when we call them they’ll say, well that doesn’t match our chart value. That’s fine. They can do that, but in our minds we have to spend what we want to spend if we want a certain player. And we have to explain, if a team is trying to trade up to us, that we don’t follow a chart. We know what they’re saying and that’s up to them, but we make up our own values.”"
This could be a great move for the Steelers. This team hasn’t moved up in the draft since drafting Troy Polamalu. If they believe someone is sitting there and worth the pick, they should use their abundance of picks to get who they believe they need.
It makes the Steelers’ draft night that much more interesting. This team can do anything and they aren’t giving any hints as to which direction they’re going come Thursday. This means anything is up for the Steelers and as the picks come in, they’ll keep all fans on their toes.
It’s always exciting watching the next generation of Pittsburgh football players come in, but not knowing how the ball will roll will make Thursday through Saturday that much more worth while.
