Brandon Kring: Pittsburgh Steelers Mock Draft
The Steelers lost a key contributor in the offseason in Jesse James. I was looking cornerback when round two rolled around but I did not feel comfortable taking who was still there that early.
I quickly turn my head to tight end or receiver and see that this monster is still there. Sternberger was an offensive machine as an Aggie in his only year as a starter. He put up an impressive 17.3 yards per catch with 10 touchdowns and 832 yards on just 48 catches.
The Steelers finally got production out of Vance McDonald in 2018 and hope that continues into 2019 but they have a big hole after him in the tight end room.
Jesse James’ rookie deal was up and the Steelers saw him leave for Detroit and rightfully so. He was severely mistreated in Pittsburgh always attempted to be replaced.
He continued to produce and they continued to try and get a new number one so I saw it coming. They now need a tight end as McDonald and Xavier Grimble are the only experienced ones left in the room.
Sternberger is a very athletic tight end with good route running and hands. He is a big body that can give you another weapon in the passing game to take some pressure off JuJu after the Antonio Brown trade.
