Brandon Kring: Pittsburgh Steelers Mock Draft
The Steelers have had plenty of drama at the running back position the last few years. The dust has settled and they still came out looking pretty good with James Conner having a great second year in the league.
Conner is the new starter, replacing Le’Veon Bell as he moves on to “greener” pastures in New York in free agency. The Steelers depth behind Conner is shaky and they will likely address is in the draft.
Jaylen Samuels showed he can be a capable number two back but when Conner went down, he was quickly number one with no one to be a serviceable number three and back him up. The Steelers need to find a better number three for cases like these as well as just good general depth.
This is where Singletary comes in as he is a great complimentary piece to Conner and Samuels. He is a power style runner who averaged 6.0 yards per carry in college getting just over 4200 yards in three seasons.
He showed receiving prowess also in college which has become a big part of the Steelers offense from their running backs. They also expect good pass protection from their backs which he is not afraid to do and does it with pop.
They don’t need a star but they do need depth and Singletary provides quality depth in the running back room. There are a few they could surprise and take early but this was my sweet spot to find a back in the simulation.
