Brandon Kring: Pittsburgh Steelers Mock Draft
The Steelers secondary performed somewhat better in 2018 than it has in the last few seasons. After grabbing a corner in the third they double dip in the sixth.
Kendall Sheffield is an explosive and speedy corner but lacks the length and ball skills to send him high up boards. He fell here in the sixth round and I believe he provides good value there.
Sheffield played at Ohio State after a year in junior college in 2016. He produced well for the Buckeyes in 2017 and 2018 but he has a lot to work on at the next level.
Sheffield’s speed isn’t enough to have teams jumping on him on day two and will need to hope to go early day three and have a great camp to land on a 53-man roster. He needs to improve his ball production and work on being more consistent in coverage.
He is much like a one trick pony receiver in that he is a fast guy who can work vertical routes but will need to show speed isn’t his only asset. If he can become a consistent coverage corner, he provides great value on day three.
