It didn’t take long for Steelers fans to figure out who Devin Bush was after he was drafted to the Steel City with the 10th overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. That’s probably because the Steelers made no effort in disguising their interest in the standout Michigan linebacker.

In his introductory press conference as a new member of the Steelers, Devin Bush had this to say about Pittsburgh’s interest in him:

"“They showed their interest in me from a while ago, and like you said, probably the worst kept secret in the draft…”"

The Steelers met with Devin Bush at his pro day, and had a glaring need at inside linebacker. To be fair, I certainly don’t fault Kevin Colbert and company for their interest.

Bush was widely considered one of the best defensive players of this draft. He blew up the NFL Combine with some impressive numbers, including a 4.43s 40-yard dash, a 40.5” vertical, and a 124” broad jump.  Bush popped out on film and was the captain and leader of Michigan’s defense this year at just 20 years old.

Devin Bush was named to the All-Big Ten defensive first-team by the coaches, and was voted the 2018 Big Ten defensive player of the year by the Associated Press – which is not an easily accomplishment.

I’m sure NFL circles already knew the interest Pittsburgh was going to have in an athletic, hard-hitting linebacker who was considered by many to be one of the top 15 players of the daft. Devin Bush certainly did.
