Justin Layne, CB, Michigan State

The Steelers didn’t disguise their need for a cornerback this year, as they brought in a handful of early round prospects for pre-draft visits. Among them was Michigan State cornerback Justin Layne.

For the value, Layne was my favorite pick the Steelers made in the 2019 draft. I had Justin Layne as my 28th overall player this year, and the Steelers were able to land him at pick 83. Layne is a big, long, athletic cornerback who shows a lot of promise mirroring in man coverage. Layne – a former wide receiver at Michigan State – has impressive ball skills to go with his athletic resume.

Grade: A+
