5 reasons I did not like the Steelers 2019 draft
By Edward Hunt
I know there has been some optimism surrounding the Steelers 2019 draft class, but I am here to be this years Grinch and tell you why I am not a big fan of their selections.
It seems the tone is always upbeat with the Steelers draft – especially with the success the Steelers have had in drafting over the years. But that doesn’t preclude me from disliking their draft just because it is the Steelers were the ones making the picks. Here are the reasons I don’t like their draft:
Devin Bush has not shown coverage ability on tape
Many are rejoicing the Bush pick as the long-term replacement for Ryan Shazier, but in my eyes it is more uncertain than Steelers fans are acknowledging. I have watched the tape on Devin Bush and while I acknowledge he gets penetration at the line of scrimmage, I don’t see him being very good in man coverage.
The Steelers have spent the last two drafts trying to find an answer to the big, move tight ends of today’s football. They attacked it through safeties in last draft and have done it in linebackers, this draft. I would say the Steelers are betting that Devin Bush’s 40 time at the NFL Combine will replace his lack of coverage skills on tape.
