WR Diontae Johnson: #88

Nowadays, wide receivers are flocking to numbers in the ‘teens’ (for whatever reason). Diontae Johnson should break the mold. Think about the all-time best Steelers wide receivers: Hines Ward (86), Antonio Brown (84), Lynn Swann (88), and John Stallworth (82). Johnson should keep the tradition rolling with number 88. This number belonged to Heyward-Bey most recently, but Johnson would continue a trend of great receivers to represent the 80’s.

CB Justin Layne: #41

Justin Layne is a long, athletic, bump and run cornerback. Number 21 immediately comes to mind, and is a number that many great defensive backs have worn throughout the years. That number, however, currently belongs to Sean Davis. Therefore, number 41 would be an excellent substitute. The last good player to wear a number in the 40’s in the Steelers secondary was Troy Polamalu. Justin Layne is a new bread of player, and getting away from cliche numbers will be a good thing.
