2019 Steelers Draft Introspection: How we performed and what it could signal

Round 4:

Projected pick: Wes Hills RB Slippery Rock

Actual pick:        Benny Snell JR. RB Kentucky

So we did draft a running back in the fourth round, just not the one I expected.  Full disclosure: my son predicted Snell in the fourth. Look, I think it was obvious we were going to draft a running back at some point given the fact that we lost Le’veon Bell in free agency.

By all accounts, Snell was a productive back at Kentucky and should provide some needed depth at the RB position.  So who’s in jeopardy of losing a spot with the pick of Snell? No one, in my opinion.  I think Snell will become the “breather” for both James Conner and Jaylen Samuels. My only concern about Snell is his seeming lack of explosiveness after he gets through the “wash” at the line, but, hey, what do I know?  I played O-line in high school at 155 LBS.  Our RB’s were bigger than I was (big). I never had to get through the “wash”.
