Why Mike Mitchell would be a good signing for the Steelers

He has experience at both safety positions

Unlike the other backups on the Steelers roster, Mitchell has starting experience at both strong and free safety. Marcus Allen is a strong safety/linebacker hybrid by nature. He’s not the guy you would want filling in for Sean Davis if he were to go down.

Mitchell, however, knows the position well, and even played some single-high in his days in Pittsburgh. I would feel much more comfortable that he could hold down the fort at either position in the event of an injury.
