Injuries remind us how quickly the Steelers season could be over
By Tommy Jaggi
Sometimes we feel like we only have to worry about injuries to our players once training camp begins. However, a non-contact injury to Redskins LB Reuben Foster reminds us just how quickly the Steelers season could be over if this happened to one of their stars.
Foster was participating in drills on May 20th when he fell to the field in pain – grasping his left knee injury. Early reports are that Foster’s injury look serious and that his season may be over. Here’s some shots of the injury:
Foster’s injury has nothing to do with the state of the Pittsburgh Steelers’ 2019 season, but it certainly gets you thinking that at any moment, their playoff chances could go down the tubes.
The Steelers obviously rely heavily on Ben Roethlisberger (as every team does with their franchise quarterback), but outside of him, there are other players on team that can’t afford to suffer a season-ending injury.
T.J. Watt, for example, is the best pass rusher on the team. With little depth behind him and Bud Dupree never collecting more than 6.0 sacks in a single season, Watt’s injury could spell the end of the 2019 season for the Steelers.
Injuries to others like JuJu Smith-Schuster, Vance McDonald, and even rookie Devin Bush could be devastating to the Steelers playoff and Super Bowl aspirations this year.
Though injuries are inevitable and part of the game, it’s hard not to worry at times when you see something like this happen to a former 1st round pick like Foster.
Staying healthy is one of the many keys to success in the NFL. The Steelers dealt with the most devastating injury in the league two years ago when they lost Ryan Shazier for the season (and quite possibly his career). If the Steelers are healthy in 2019, they will at least stand a chance.
