A recent article has Steelers quarterback, Ben Roethlisberger, being taken with the 24th overall pick in a total NFL re-draft.

The thought of throwing every NFL player back into a pool and re-drafting all 32 teams is one that gets me lost in thought. I often ponder this scenario and imagine what the Steelers new roster might look like. Though this is a situation that will never play itself out in real life, Marcus Mosher of Raiders Wire recently took a shot at it.

With every NFL player available for the taking, Mosher simulated a 1st round re-draft of the entire National Football League. In it, one player from the Steelers was drafted in the top 32 picks: quarterback, Ben Roethlisberger.

With the 24th overall pick in the NFL re-draft, Marcus Mosher has the Chicago Bears taking Ben Roethlisberger. Here is what he had to say about the selection:

"Another veteran quarterback comes off the board, and it’s Roethlisberger, who is entering his 15th season in the NFL.While Roethlisberger has always struggled with turnovers and durability concerns, he has become a reasonably consistent passer. He’s had 10 straight seasons with a passer rating of at least 90, and he’s averaged over 7 yards per attempt in every season of his career. At the age of 37, Roethlisberger is down to just a few more years in the NFL, but he is still a premier passer and a value at this stage of the draft."

Despite his less-than-youthful age (at least in quarterback years) and an his 30 interceptions over the past two seasons, Mosher has Big Ben landing in the ‘Windy City’ with the 24th pick.

Mosher understands the value NFL teams place on the quarterback position. In fact, more than half the players drafted in the 1st round of his NFL re-draft are quarterbacks.

In today’s pass-happy league, it’s hard to make the playoffs without a competent signal caller up front who can make all the throws. It’s not unrealistic, by any means, to think that an NFL team would prefer a 37-year old, Super Bowl winning quarterback over a young All-Pro talent at another position.

There is a reason quarterbacks like Matthew Stafford, Derek Carr, and Jimmy Garoppolo get paid more than any player at any other position in the league.

The fact of the matter is that Ben would give the Bears a chance to win (at least for a few more years). NFL executives know that, and that is all it would take to get him drafted in the first round of a total NFL re-draft.
