3 veteran safeties the Steelers could add through free agency

Tre Boston

For reasons unknown to me, Boston still sits in free agency. He might be waiting for the right landing spot, and the Steelers may not be right for him, but I would at least give him a call.

Boston is still just 27 years old, but is entering his 6th NFL season. He performed well last season, and I’m sure he would like to find a starting role rather than signing with a team with two young safeties.

However, Sean Davis is in the least year of his rookie deal, and Boston could be an excellent stop-gap suitor for the Steelers at free safety. He has 8 interceptions over the past two NFL seasons, and Pro Football Focus ranked him as the 24th best safety in the league last season.

Sean Davis (25) is just two years younger, and still has a lot to prove as a player. If Boston was willing to sign with Pittsburgh, the Steelers could have Davis and Boston battle it out for the starting free safety role on the team this season.

This would drive down the price of resigning Sean Davis – which may not even be necessary if the Steelers were able to land Tre Boston.
