The Pittsburgh Steelers have some star power up front that deserve recognition. Unfortunately, they have received very little from the media as of late.

The Steelers elite are being overlooked again among media circles. This time it comes from USA Today’s Touchdown Wire. They recently took a page from NFL Networks playbook, and attempted to rank the top 100 players in today’s NFL.

Their rankings, however, were not kind to the Steelers stars.

Doug Farrar of Touchdown Wire included just two Steelers on this list: Cameron Heyward and Ben Roethlisberger. Heyward came in as the 45th overall player on his list, while Ben ranked in at 23rd.

In comparison, the Dallas Cowboys had 6 representatives that made the top 100. It’s remarkable that the Steelers didn’t boast more than 2 players on Farrar’s list. Some of the other names that should have been considered include David DeCastro, Maurkice Pouncey, JuJu Smith-Schuster, and T.J. Watt.

Instead, Farrar elected to include players like Tyler Lockett over JuJu and Yannick Ngakoue over Watt.

If it makes you feel any better, both Le’Veon Bell and Antonio Brown made the top 100 list – the latter coming in 12th overall.

This isn’t the first time this week the Steelers have been disrespected in NFL rankings by the media. I recently wrote an article about how Pittsburgh failed to see a single player make Pro Football Focus’s Top 50 players list heading into 2019.

For my money, David DeCastro is one of the best interior offensive lineman in the league and should have been a lock for both. There are a handful of others who could make a case for their names on these lists as well.

The Steelers had 6 Pro Bowlers and 2 Pro Bowl alternates voted in to play in Orlando this past January, but just one of them (Cam Heyward) made Touchdown Wire’s top 100 players list.

At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter where NFL media has the Steelers elite slotted. Let’s hope they take this backseat status and prove to the nation this year why their players and their football team are among the very best in the league.
