Olasunkanmi Adeniyi

Ola Adeniyi was the talk of the 2018 preseason. So much so that it was becoming more and more clear he could make the roster. Unfortunately, he landed on IR after suffering a season-ending injury.

In 2019, he looks to make a similar impression. He recorded five total tackles, four quarterback pressures, and one quarterback hit in the preseason opener against the Buccaneers. While he didn’t come away with a sack, his ability to shed blockers was evident throughout his time in the game.

Like Devin Bush, Adeniyi played the entirety of the first half. Obviously, we all like for our edge rushers to sack the quarterback, not always “almost get there,” but Ola’s ability to set the edge was also on display tonight.

The epitome of that came on the play we highlighted on the last page with Devin Bush. In case you didn’t notice, the other player back there was Adeniyi. Bush made the play up the middle, but Ola gave the runner nowhere to go outside, and the two converged to make the big 4th down stop.

To be fair, we get all over Bud Dupree for almost getting to the quarterback, but not getting the sack. And while that is what happened mostly tonight for Ola, he still showed great skill from the same position. He definitely picked up where he left off in 2018’s preseason. His bid for a Steelers’ roster spot is off to a great start.
