1. Joe Haden

Haden was carted off of the field the other day and that had me thinking –  “that probably could have destroyed the season..” I consider the Steelers to be the dark horse in the AFC to go to the Super Bowl, but without Joe Haden I don’t believe this is possible.

Haden could be the CB1 on almost any NFL team in the league and improves this defense tremendously. The depth at CB is quite shallow, as Steven Nelson is the only other standout CB on the depth chart. Nelson has proved he can be a CB1 but that was also on one of the worst defenses in the league last year. The same defense that part took in a Monday night game where over 100 points were scored.

Nelson is a “wait and see” type of player for me. I believe he is a decent safety net and is a good signing as a second corner. But without Haden, I don’t think the Steelers have much of a shot at defending against most teams in today’s pass heavy league.

So for sure, there are more than just three players that will affect how the Steelers 2019 season goes, but these three stand out to me the most because they all play a role that will round out this team and make them one best in the league both offensively and defensively. The most well-rounded teams are the one’s that tend to travel far into the playoffs, that’s what the Steelers should be striving for.
