The Steelers got off on the right foot with a win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the first pre-season game.  Let’s take a look at ‘the good, the bad and the ugly’ from the game.

The Steelers commenced the journey that will be the 2019 season with a 30-28 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.  While it’s great to begin said journey with a win, particularly at home, there were elements of ‘good, bad and ugly’ in the game, as there are in any game, pre-season or regular season.  Let’s explore those elements, starting with ‘the good’.

As I was watching the game with my 21-year-old son, I jotted down some observations, six full pages worth of observations, I might add.  I had mentioned in previous articles that I have always watched a Steelers game with a critical eye, so to speak.

Because I pride myself on being an objective Steelers fan, I can honestly say there were more ‘good’ elements to the game than there were ‘bad’ or ‘ugly’ elements.  The single, biggest ‘good’ element of the win was that there were no serious injuries.

If there is anything that will derail a season even before it gets started, it’s injuries.  The fact that we escaped the game unscathed is a blessing; these blessing must continue as the Steelers wade through the shallow waters of the pre-season into the deep waters of the regular season if we are to have a chance at making some noise.

Let’s take a look at some more ‘good’ that emanated from the game.
