Defensive line: 6

Cameron Heyward

Stephon Tuitt

Javon Hargrave

Tyson Alualu

Isaiah Buggs

Dan McCullers

Henry Mondeaux has made a great case for the roster in his first two games, but it’s hard for me to see the Steelers investing more than 6 spots to their defensive line this year. He could be a sleeper option to make it if they go with a 7th.

Edge defenders: 4

T.J. Watt

Bud Dupree

Anthony Chickillo

Ola Adeniyi

Tuzar Skipper had another impressive performance in week two against the Chiefs, but if the Steelers open the season with Ola Adeniyi on the roster, I don’t think there will be room for Skipper. Pittsburgh kept just three edge defenders last season when Ola was out. Skipper has a chance to convince them to keep another, but I bet they use this spot on another position.

Linebackers: 5

Devin Bush

Vince Williams

Mark Barron

Tyler Matakevich

Ulysees Gilbert III

Ulysees Gilbert is in and Sutton Smith is out. Smith hasn’t been able to get on the field and the 6th round rookie’s chances are looking slim. Meanwhile, Gilbert has played so well that I would be surprised if he didn’t make the roster at this point. Matakevich has played well in preseason, and will not so easily be overthrown. It looks like he will be on the roster again this year.

Cornerbacks: 6

Joe Haden

Steven Nelson

Mike Hilton

Justin Layne

Cameron Sutton

Artie Burns

My list of cornerbacks remains the same. Artie Burns was once thought to be on the roster bubble, but he has really been impressive so far in preseason. This list is getting more solidified the more we watch the cornerbacks play this preseason.

Safeties: 4

Terrell Edmunds

Sean Davis

Kameron Kelly

Jordan Dangerfield

Kameron Kelly and Jordan Dangerfield aren’t exactly the cream of the crop, but I think both get kept as of now. Dangerfield is a solid box safety to backup Edmunds, and Kelly is the primary backup at free safety to Sean Davis.

Special teams: 3

Chris Boswell

Jordan Berry

Kameron Canaday

Boswell has done a good job in regaining the confidence of his coaching staff this offseason. He will open as the Steelers kicker. Berry, on the other hand, has been less than impressive, but he is still the front-runner to land the punting job for Pittsburgh. Canaday will be their long snapper in 2019.

There are still two weeks left of the preseason, but we are beginning to see a much clearer picture of which players will be with the team in September. There is still time for some outsiders to make their mark. We will keep a close eye on them in the last two preseason games.
