The Steelers have some decisions to make at the quarterback position. Here is what the future state of the quarterbacks looks like Pittsburgh.

The Pittsburgh Steelers longtime franchise quarterback Ben Roethlisberger has made it known in the past that he only plans to play a few more seasons in the NFL. Roethlisberger’s comments should make the Steelers start thinking long term for their team.

This begs the question: Who will become Ben’s successor when he does decide to call it a career? The six time Super Bowl champions could look in house for the answer, or possibly look to outsource for a quarterback.

Is the future quarterback currently on the roster?

The Steelers have three quarterbacks on the roster outside of Ben: Mason Rudolph, Josh Dobbs, and Devlin Hodges. All three young quarterbacks had solid starts to the 2019 NFL season after they showcased their skills against the Buccaneers this past weekend in their first preseason game.

Rudolph was the stand out throughout the game, completing 5 out of his 8 attempts passing for a total of 91 passing yards and throwing 2 touchdowns. Dobbs outing was similar to Rudolph’s completing 5 out of his 8 attempts passing for a total of 85 yards with no touchdowns.  Dobbs also flashed his ability to extend plays rushing for 44 yards on two carries.

He did, however, take the two lone sacks on the evening. Finally, Hodges had been turning heads all training camp, and the preseason opener was no different. The rookie undrafted free agent Hodges, completed 8 of his 14 pass attempts for a total of 79 yards and 1 touchdown.
