Ryan Switzer, WR

Switzer isn’t a bad football player by any stretch of the imagination. He has already been traded twice (from Dallas to Oakland, and Oakland to Pittsburgh), so we know he does hold some trade value.

There is a solid chance that Switzer could play a factor on offense for the Steelers this season. He and Ben Roethlisberger have developed some chemistry, and he offers a bit of bite-sized security blanket for Ben.

However, there is no guarantee that the Steelers are going to want to keep both small slot receivers in Eli Rogers and Ryan Switzer. Rogers was a former undrafted player and is coming off a season where he played just 3 games. He holds less trade value than his counterpart.

If Pittsburgh decides to roll with a player like Johnny Holton – a long strider who can be a deep threat and a gunner on special teams – then Switzer or Rogers will likely be looking for employment elsewhere.

Instead of waiting for this to happen, the Steelers could open trade talks to deal Switzer. Perhaps they could receive a day three draft choice or exchange him for a reserve tight end on a team that is deep at the position.
