The second preseason game for the Steelers is history. How are the rookies doing so far for a fantasy team?

The good news is that Steelers Bennie Snell, Diontae Johnson, and Zach Gentry have all had playing time with varying degrees of success. I know what is said about the preseason, that is doesn’t matter but I believe the players would disagree.

It is very important to those players on the bubble and competing for their jobs. It may not be the best football or titillating to watch but there is a lot you can glean from these games if you watch closely or can see it for “what it is”.

This is just the preseason and a good or bad performance does not ultimately foretell success or reduced playing time. We do not get to see them in practice but it can be an indicator of where they are in their development.

This is the Steelers preseason Fantasy rookie review through 2 games.

Bennie Snell

He has struggled through 2 games but to be fair he hasn’t had much to work with. The blocking has been bad overall in his limited carries. He had 13 carries in the first game against the Bucs with only 26 yards.

In the second game against KC, he had a similar stat line with 7 for 16. The yards per carry is very bad at only 2 and 2.3 yards per carry. I know this is very discouraging but you also have to look at how he was used.

He had 20 carries in two games but also 6 balls thrown his way. This shows me that they see him as a 3 down back and not just a goal-line thumper. In game one he caught 2 balls for a nice 25 yards and game 2 was only 2 for 5 yards. I did notice they used him on special teams and he made a nice tackle for a loss.
