Pittsburgh Steelers preseason fantasy rookie review
By Dan Gilliam
Zach Gentry
The fifth-round pick out of Michigan was drafted to back up Vance McDonald. The six-foot 8 TE will be a great red zone and short-yardage receiving threat for the Steelers.
If you have been paying attention Big Ben loves to have a tall receiver ever since the Plaxico Burress days when he could just throw it up to him. I don’t think Gentry is that type of athlete but he should be taller than all of the LBs and DBs that might cover him.
He also missed one of the two preseason games but in the first game, he did have 3 catches for 17 yards and a score. I bet you can guess where the area of the field he scored in, yes the red zone! He is not the player that Health Miller was, I see the best comparison to be Jesse James. The best part of the stat line, in my opinion, is his efficiency. He caught all the three balls thrown to him.
The third preseason game should tell more of the story of these rookies but so far I am excited about how they have played overall. Johnson is a future play maker and the offense will be much better with the depth these players will provide at their positions.
What will the third preseason game tell us? Diontae Johnson has been held out of practice today with an undisclosed injury. I hope this is just precautionary. The season is only a few weeks away and the Steelers will need all hands on deck to make that deep playoff push.
