The Steelers made it three in a row with an 18-6 victory over the Tennessee Titans. Let’s take a look at the good, the bad and the ugly from the game.
The Steelers kept the victory train rollin’ with an 18-6 victory over the Tennessee Titans. Holistically speaking, it was a good game; all three phases, offense, defense, and special teams, played well. As with any game, win or lose, there exist good elements, bad elements, and ugly elements. Let’s take a look at some of the good elements of the game.
When the first-team offense took the field, they were led by Ben Roethlisberger. It was good to see Ben, the Steelers veteran quarterback who is entering his 16th season, get some work in this preseason with what we assume will be the starting offense.
While it took a little bit for the offense the get going, they found the end zone on the third series thanks to a 17 yard TD pass from Ben to JuJu Smith-Schuster. It wasn’t so much about the TD pass, it was about finding a rhythm which enabled the Steelers offense to get off the field early in the contest.
It was also good that the offense was out there for only three series. Perhaps that was the plan going in regardless of whether or not they had been able to put points on the board, but I suspect Ben would have preferred to stay in until such time as a TD drive was orchestrated.
Another good facet of the game was the overall play of the defense. After giving up 28 points in the first preseason game, the Steelers defense has surrendered a total of 13 points over the last two games. While it is only preseason, an improvement is an improvement and, as I have stated previously, Steelers fans will take the improvement, particularly on the defensive side of the ball.
Let’s continue to explore some good aspects of the game.
