The Steelers played their final game of the preseason Thursday night in Carolina. Aside from Devin Bush, no major players got on the field as the Steelers got final looks at players on the bubble.
The Steelers final preseason game was a chance for guys who weren’t already on the roster to make their final mark on the coaching staff for a roster spot. Some players took the opportunity and ran with it, while others may have played their last snaps as a Steelers player.
The team likely has most of the 53-man roster decided, but there are backup spots still to be had. The last linebacker and offensive line spots are up for grabs and it seems none of the offensive linemen want to take that spot. The entire reserve offensive line stock is down, we will get that one out of the way first and now, on to the rest:
Mason Rudolph: Stock – up
Rudolph had already all but locked himself into the backup quarterback role but after Dobbs struggled in his starting snaps, Rudolph came in and had himself a great second quarter.
He finished 7-for-11 with 125 yards and a touchdown. The touchdown came on a one play drive after a Cameron Sutton interception and was a 31-yard bomb that dropped right into the arms of Johnny Holton.
Rudolph showed this preseason why Pittsburgh drafted him in 2018. His progression from last year to this year has been a night and day difference and the Steelers have to feel comfortable in having him back up Ben Roethlisberger and possibly be their future at the position.
