This week the Steelers travel to the Carolinas to take on the Panthers in their annual preseason conclusion matchup.

With many starters sitting, this gives those on the roster bubble an opportunity to solidify their seat among the Steelers before Saturday’s 4 PM deadline.

This week on Steelers trio, we’ll look at another set of ingredients for this week’s matchup. With a few question mark positions and toss-ups for the final 53-man roster spots, it’s a very big week for a few on the edge of glory… and having their dreams have a setback.

Let’s dig into this week’s Primanti Bros classic trio!

Slaw: Safety

There are three sure fire locks for the final roster: Terrell Edmunds, Sean Davis, and the spectacular story of Kameron Kelly. There remains one definite spot left, maybe two.

Last year, the Steelers kept five safeties heading into week 1. This year that may not be the magic number—especially with Mike Hilton getting some more reps at safety in practice.

This ultimately could mean it is a battle between Marcus Allen and Jordan Dangerfield. Dangerfield brings experience in special teams and even some starting experience. Allen, on the other hand, is a young player with raw potential.

Last year, the Steelers kept both Allen and Dangerfield—experimenting with Allen in the “dollar defense” and Dangerfield staying with special teams. This year, it may not be this simple.

With Artie Burns and Cameron Sutton having exceptional preseasons along with the selection of Justin Layne, it makes the last spot in the secondary point to a fourth safety. Will it be the local kid or the Danger Zone?
