The Pittsburgh Steelers are gearing up for the 2019 NFL season. Here are the four players who were named team captains this year.
Less than a week before the Steelers travels to Foxborough to play the New England Patriots, Pittsburgh has named their team captains for the 2019 season.
According to Teresa Varley of Steelers.com, Pittsburgh’s team captains this season will be quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, center Maurkice Pouncey, defensive lineman Cameron Heyward, and fullback Roosevelt Nix.

There aren’t a lot of surprises to be had here, as each one of these players has been captains in the past.
Maurkice Pouncey is the leader and signal-caller of Pittsburgh’s offensive line. The 7-time Pro Bowler has been a staple in keeping Ben upright since 2010.
Cameron Heyward has been a long-time leader of the Pittsburgh’s defense. He is the voice of reason on the defensive side of the ball and is the most established player the Steelers have on their defense since James Harrison.
Roosevelt Nix is a player who often flies under the radar. The Steelers fullback isn’t known for his contributions on offense. Rather, he will be the special teams captain once again in 2019.
Finally, it’s not surprising to see future Hall of Fame quarterback Ben Roethlisberger being named as a team captain in 2019. It is his 11th time being named as a captain of the team. He will look to lead Pittsburgh to their 7th Lombardy trophy and his 3rd since joining the team as a rookie in 2004.
Eventually, players like T.J. Watt, JuJu Smith-Schuster, and Devin Bush may take over as the new leaders on this Steelers team. But as for now, Pittsburgh will leave it up to the veterans to call the shots. With fewer distractions on the team this year, perhaps being in a position of leadership will be easier than it has been in years.
