The Pittsburgh Steelers reportedly turned down a first-round pick in exchange for trading Brown to the Patriots. Now New England gets him anyway.

Antonio Brown has been nothing but a massive headache this offseason. But even with all of the problems he caused in Pittsburgh, the New England Patriots reportedly offered the Steelers a first-round pick in exchange for the troubled All-Pro receiver.

According to Chis Mortensen of ESPN, Bill Belichick offered the Steelers as much as a first-round pick in exchange for Brown, but Mike Tomlin and Kevin Colbert declined:

It was well known that Colbert and Tomlin didn’t want to trade the potential Hall of Fame receiver to a rival, and there is no bigger threat in the AFC than the New England Patriots.

In hindsight, Pittsburgh would have pulled the trigger on this trade in an instant had they known Antonio Brown would end up with them anyway. What’s worst is that the Patriots didn’t have to give up a single pick to acquire Brown, and they got him at a potentially discounted rate.

Brown had a major falling out with Jon Gruden, Mike Mayock, and the Raiders. He made one excuse after another for missing practice and quickly forced his way out of Oakland faster than we could have expected (even for a player as unstable as him).

The New England Patriots are early Super Bowl favorites, but they would be a good team whether Antonio Brown is on their roster or not. Steelers fans may have lost out on potentially landing a first-round pick for Brown. Now we are just hoping he blows up his new team like he did with his previous two.
