The Pittsburgh Steelers missed out on the Jadeveon Clowney sweepstakes. Here are three players they should try to trade for right away.
The Steelers have never been a team that has been known for making splashy moves. They live by the philosophy of keeping their own players and making sure their veterans get paid.
The problem with this line of logic is that it only works if Pittsburgh isn’t missing on draft picks.
In recent years, general manager Kevin Colbert and head coach Mike Tomlin have struck out on far too many picks. In 2013, the Steelers brass selected Georgia outside linebacker Jarvis Jones in the first round. He earned just 6.0 sacks in four seasons with Pittsburgh.
But he wasn’t the only draft pick to fall by the wayside. 2015 first-rounder, Bud Dupree has been a disappointment in his first four seasons, and his draftmates, Senquez Golson (2nd round pick), and Sammie Coates (3rd round pick) combined to suit up for just 21 games in a Steelers uniform.
In 2016, Colbert and Tomlin reached down the list to grab Artie Burns in the first round (and we all know how he has turned out).
Instead of attempting to repair their roster through trades and free agency, Pittsburgh has elected to throw money back into players like Dupree and make do with low-level free-agent signings.
Pittsburgh is in a Super Bowl window, and they need to make some moves to give their team the best chance to win it all. Here are three players the Steelers should look to trade for right away:
