Steelers Coaching Staff vs Themselves

What a twist! If you’re a close Steelers follower, this may not be as surprising as it sounds. Heck, if you just watched the game Sunday night you might’ve gotten a hint.

Where do we start? How about the lack of preparation? Tomlin seemed to confirm that by stating they weren’t ready for prime time. Seriously?

The game plan was terrible for the most part. Offensively, it was recycled running plays from the last game vs the Patriots. Because Belichick and company weren’t going to be prepared, right?

On 4th and 1, you had no choice but to throw out of a five-wide set? Did you call the same running play THREE times in a row? What is going on?

On the defensive side of the ball, when the Patriots started rolling, the communication broke down and the big plays fired out of a cannon. Add in lack of adjustments (such as constantly getting pick apart on crossers) and you have 33 points given up.

The coaching staff shot themselves in the foot last week. The Patriots weren’t doing anything special either; they were just one step ahead and executing. Needless to say, Steelers Nation wasn’t happy.

This week the coaching staff will be tasked with two things on both sides of the ball: create a successful game and (in turn) create an identity.

The running game has to be better offensively. One thing that contributed to the lack of success on defense is the fact that the offense couldn’t sustain drives–leading to a tired, worn-out defense taking the field more often than not. This also doesn’t help adjustments as your time to adjust decreases. Overall, there has to be an identity and the ability to adjust/game plan better.

The coaches will have to get the troops regrouped and prepared for a tough test against the Seahawks Sunday at 1 PM. The Heinz Field crowd will expect a much better showing and, more importantly, a victory. We will see how the Steelers rebound and get a better indication of what this unit is capable of.

Here We Go Steelers!
