Stephon Tuitt

Stephon Tuitt has been a mystery in this defense. Ever since he signed his lucrative $60M deal, his consistency has left much to be desired. That doesn’t go to say he isn’t a capable starter.

Today, he looked like the contract he signed. Leading the defense with 2.5 sacks and tackle for loss, he too had a big day. He looked every bit of the guy the Steelers have hoped he’d be.

Again, the unfortunate things are the fact that this solid performance had the same negative occurrences as TJ: a quiet second half and overshadowed by a mediocre performance in a loss.

Tuitt will look to carry this relatively strong performance over into next week. For the first time in 6 years, the Steelers are 0-2. Next week, Tuitt and Watt will have to play big in avoiding an 0-3 start.

Needless to say, the defense will have to play exceptionally well across the board in a must-win game. On a positive note: in addition to this good performance, it is great to see Tuitt healthy. There’s no doubt the past two years have been rough on him physically. Now we will see how big of an impact he can have moving forward.
