3 quarterbacks the Steelers should trade for to backup Rudolph
By Tommy Jaggi
Ryan Fitzpatrick
Miami Dolphins
Let’s be clear: Fitzpatrick won’t be brought in to take Mason Rudolph’s job. Rather, who better to help develop the Steelers young quarterback than a Harvard graduate who has been around the block.
Fitzpatrick turns 37-years old this season and is in his 15th year with 8 different NFL franchises. He knows the game like the back of his hand, and his assortment of NFL experience is a plus.
Dolphins quarterback Josh Rosen was upset when Ryan Fitzpatrick was named as the starter to begin the 2019 season. In a deal that would make Rosen happy, the Miami Dolphins (who are apparently cleaning house anyway) could ship Fitzpatrick to the Steelers in exchange for a late-round draft choice.
The 15-year pro has nearly 30,000 career passing yards to go with 191 touchdown passes. Mason Rudolph is still learning the ropes. What better way to get him prepared than to bring in one of the best backup quarterbacks in the league for over a decade.
Fitzpatrick would provide a veteran presence and an insurance policy in the event of a Rudolph injury. Steelers should make the call.
