Speaking of quarterbacks who have been around the block, Josh McCown has about as much backup experience as anyone out there.
McCown was a former third-round pick by the Arizona Cardinals all the way back in 2002 – two years before Ben Roethlisberger even entered the league.
The veteran quarterback is entering his 17th NFL season with his 9th different team. He has only started more than 10 games in a season 3 times, but he knows how to embrace his role as a backup and how to get young guys ready to play.
He has spent his last few seasons aiding in the development of players like Sam Darnold and Carson Wentz. It would be interesting to see if McCown would be up for trade, considering Wentz hasn’t played a full 16-game season since his rookie year in 2016.
Still, it wouldn’t hurt for Pittsburgh to inquire about the long-time veteran, as he could be an asset to Mason Rudolph.
