The good
In addition to his nine tackles on the day, Devin Bush, the Steelers diminutive ILB, recovered two fumbles. I will say this about Bush. He does have a nose for the ball, which is what the Steelers defense needs from their first-round pick.
Bush and company would force a total of five turnovers. Yes, five turnovers coupled with a sack to boot. Unfortunately, the turnovers and the sack were not enough to secure victory. We will explore that aspect of the game momentarily.
Another good element of the game was the fact that the offense scored 20 points with a new quarterback making his first NFL start. Mason Rudolph, the QB as mentioned above who made his first NFL start, finished the day with two TD passes and one INT.
I think the fact that he threw only 27 passes was a double-edged sword as the running game just continued to struggle. Perhaps had Rudolph aired it out a little more, the Steelers would have emerged victorious, but, it is a moot point now.
Notwithstanding the two sacks the offensive line allowed, Rudolph looked poised in the pocket and showed escapability when the pocket collapsed as he ran the ball four times for 15 yards. He will need to continue the maturation process if the Steelers have any hope of climbing out of this 0-3 hole in which they currently find themselves.
Let’s turn our attention to the bad aspects of the game.
