Through the first four games of the 2019 season, the Steelers have questions to answer

At the quarter mark of the 2019 season, the Steelers are a work in progress.  I don’t think this is an outlandish statement. If you’re into statistics, take a gander at these offensive and defensive rankings, according to the official website of the NFL.

Through the first four games, the Steelers offense is ranked 29th in total yards.  We have passed for 876 yards, which puts us at the 23rd spot; we have rushed for 258 yards, which earns us the 28th spot.

On the other side of the ball, the Steelers defense is ranked 19th in total yards allowed per game.  We have surrendered 1,010 yards through the air, which puts us at the 20th spot; we have allowed 491 yards on the ground, which earns us the 22nd spot.

I don’t know about you, but those numbers do not inspire a whole lot of confidence.  Can the Steelers turn things around and become the team we hoped they would become at the outset of the 2019 season?  Certainly, they can.  The real question is, will they become the team we had hoped they would become at the outset of the season?

To answer that question, I would need a crystal ball, which I do not possess.  I believe the Steelers can turn things around in order to win more games than they did at the quarter mark of the season.  The last time I checked, a 25 percent winning percentage will not put you into playoff contention.  If the Steelers were attending college and earned a 25 on a mid-term, they would most likely fail the course.

So what do we need to do to turn things around in order to avoid a failing grade at season’s end?  Let’s take a look at what we need to do on both sides of the ball.
