Steelers Defense vs Philip Rivers

It is still a relatively fresh wound. Not sure what I am referring to? I’ll give you a hint… Missed false start.

Now that I have reminded you of the baffling collapse last year in Heinz Field, let’s remember the first half of that game.

The defense was dominant and the offense was clicking. They went into the locker room up 23-7. We know how that ended.

This year, the Steelers have made all the moves necessary to upgrade their defense. Be it trade, free agency, or the draft, the Steelers have finally put together a competent looking defense.

After a slow start last week against Baltimore, allowing 17 first-half points, the defense allowed only 9 the rest of the way–all while sacking Jackson 5 times and forcing 3 interceptions.

The Steelers have recorded 12 turnovers this season already after only recording 15 takeaways last year. Each week they have improved and shown they can be a force to be reckoned with.

Last year Rivers picked them apart until he brought a victory home. This year the defense will have to continue to trend in the right direction to better their chances of saving the season.

Despite a hot and cold season, the Chargers offense ranks fairly well at 13 in total offense and 8th in the passing attack. Their Achilles heel has been an inconsistent ground game (something the Steelers have struggled against) and a 19th ranked scoring attack.

The Steelers will have their hands full with the future hall of fame quarterback as Tomlin eluded to this week. They will need their best performance to date if they want to give themselves a chance.
