Another game, another loss for the Steelers. Can the season be salvaged? Let’s take a look at what happened and what can be done to turn things around.
The Steelers gave a valiant effort against the Ravens but ultimately fell short in overtime by a margin we have come accustomed to seeing in recent history when these two teams have collided: 3 points. Yes, all that stood in the way of another victory on the season was 3 points. The loss takes the Steelers record to 1 win against 4 losses. I think it’s fair to ask this question: Can the season be salvaged?
To answer that question, one would need to possess either a crystal ball, a time machine, or the power of foresight. Since I do not own any of the aforementioned, I will have to resort to being hopeful the Steelers can turn things around to salvage the season.
Against the Ravens, we lost by 3 points. The previous loss against the 49ers was by a margin of 4 points; the loss to the Seahawks was by a margin of 2 points. Throwing out the 30 point difference in the defeat to the Patriots, the Steelers have lost three winnable games by an average of 3 points.
If you’re a ‘glass half full’ Steelers fans, you will take solace in knowing that we have come oh-so-close to victory; if you’re a ‘glass half empty’ Steelers fan, you will bemoan the losses for what they are-losses — end of story.
Make no mistake about it, the Steelers are at a tipping point. A loss to Chargers on October 13th could seal our fate, but will it? Let’s explore that aspect of the season at some other point. Right now, let’s take a look at what transpired in the Ravens game and what needs to happen to salvage the season.
